Hours of endless fun for the over 45s

Well it appears that Sony have finally announced what all geeks know, that the Play Station 3 is not going to arrive this Spring. Not earth shattering news I know but never the less it has driven the Weasel to finally take the plunge and buy an X-BOX 360, what also helped is that the price has finally got to a reasonable level, dhs1800 in Geant at I'm a potato mall.
First impressions are impressive and the weasel is almost looking forward to those trapped indoor summer days that are just around the corner.

Wow - about time! That is the premium model, right?

Now head over to Amazon.co.uk and quickly preorder Oblivion ;)

Btw - if you sign up for Xbox Live with your Dubai address and any random UK postcode, it should work fine. Or a full UK address if you prefer.

Just make sure you REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT YOU PUT IN WHEN YOU SIGNED UP.

I have an xbox live account that renews to the tune of 80 USD$ a year which I can't cancel because I can't remember the info I put in when registering /:

WRITE IT DOWN AND PRINT IT OUT.

Update:

I went to Virgin today and they have Xbox360 for Dh1,800. But it's only the basic model (no harddrive). In Europe, the *premium* model is Dh1,800 (Euro399) and bear in mind that includes hefty taxes. So the box is still a rip off here.

Virgin aren't getting the premium model for another couple of weeks. But when they do, it will only be the NTSC version, fk knows why. The guy is advising people to buy the PAL basic model now with the optional add ons (hard drive, wireless controller) which he said would be around Dh1,000, the equivalent extra that the premium model would cost.

Trust me that you will need the hard drive. As soon as you sign up for Xbox Live, it's a must, or you can't do anything.

The wireless controller isn't a must. To be honest, I would have preferred the wired one. I ended up having to buy the play-and-charge cable for my wireless one, to prevent endless battery changing. That was Dh180 at Geekay, so not cheap. That said, it is pretty cool being able to have no wire hanging over you.

One more thing you may want, depending on your TV/monitor/screen is the VGA cable. Geekay is selling them for Dh200. The difference between composite (red and yellow) and VGA or component input is just astounding. You don't have to be a video geek to appreciate it.
